About the Position:

The Liability Claims Oversight Specialist provides overall managerial and supervisory responsibilities of First’s liability claim portfolio, particularly the higher exposure claims. The position will oversee claims representatives’ caseloads and ensure proper direction, development, and disposition of these cases.  The Claim Liability Oversight Specialist will also aid the TPA (third party administrator) in securing supporting documentation for the subrogation claims and enhance recovery. Finally, they are responsible for auditing compliance to the application of claim handling best practices for liability nationwide

  • Ensures proper use and direction of TPA personnel and oversight of their claims management practices and management of approved vendors.
  • Ensures that the claims assigned are adequately reserved at all times, that reserves are adjusted timely and appropriately based on the current support in the claim file, and that appropriate documentation is being requested by the file handler.
  • Documents activities on all pending cases in the RMIS system.
  • Ensures that all reporting requirements by our carrier and/or company are met by the file handler.
  • Tracks or generates TPA reports for a variety of metrics for the department, such as lag time, pending per adjuster, etc.
  • Discusses any quality or handling issues to the attention of the claim management staff
  • Assists locations in submitting information necessary to take liability or subrogation claim forward.
  • Trains claim personnel or collaborate with other team members concerning training modules to be rolled out and/or implemented.
  • Ensures all claims are managed to the highest standard.
  • Assists the file handlers in ensuring that sound litigation management occurs and that the performance of external counsel is moving a file to the most direct and cost-effective resolution.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • 5+ years experience in liability claims
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • TPA or carrier claims experience a plus
  • Adjuster’s License and CPCU preferred
  • Litigation management experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of states' negligence laws
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and work independently 
  • Experience with liability investigation techniques
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
