First Transit is hiring a Site Operations Manager in Kelowna, B.C.


Job Purpose:

This position is responsible for scheduling and organizing work for our service team, who are responsible for ensuring that the fleet is fueled, washed and sanitized when returning from revenue service. The Site Operations Manager works with other departments to ensure equipment, facilities and staffing are in place to meet the goals above. Strong leadership, organizational and planning skills are essential for success. This position is also responsible for hiring, development and discipline of Servicepeople. This is a safety-sensitive position.


  • Responsible for performance management of Serviceperson crew. Will manage recruiting, hiring, development and discipline, up to termination of Serviceperson crew
  • Required to organize, oversee and direct all washing and fueling activities. Conducts regular quality checks and gives feedback and direction to crew
  • Reporting of cleaning activities to more senior management and our customer, BC Transit. Auditing of quality of work by service crew and reporting same to BC Transit
  • Reviewing and submitting incidents and reports to operations and more senior management
  • Responsible for identifying training requirements for Service people
  • Supports operations, maintenance and admin departments as directed and required
  • Development and maintenance of strong working relationships with internal staff at all levels, external officials including but not limited to BC Transit, fire, ambulance, police, city managers, public works employees and many others
  • Conducts preventative maintenance checks on equipment as required. Organizes preventative maintenance and repairs with contractors on equipment around facility as required
  • Incident reporting and response as needed for incidents with service crew in and around the bus yard
  • Assists with development and administration of cleaning budget
  • Labour relations issues, such as grievance resolution and collective bargaining
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Grade 12 education
  • Class 5 license required. Class 1 or 2 license with air brake endorsement preferred
  • Must have or be able to obtain WHMIS 2015


  • Strong team leadership skills, with ability to obtain compliance on safe work practices
  • Several years supervision of a cleaning operation or equivalent, preferably in a bussing environment
  • Extensive knowledge of industry best practices and cleaning techniques and equipment
  • Previous experience managing in a unionized environment
  • Experience and understanding of safety best practices and working in safety sensitive environment
  • Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office products
  • Courses in supervisory skills and leadership
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills; demonstrated ability to communicate/interact with employees, managers and outside vendors (all levels of comprehension), in a courteous/respectful/efficient manner
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to work under stress and meet strict timelines


  • Possess excellent or corrected vision to allow operator to have the ability to read and comprehend written material.  Must have good depth perception, peripheral vision, distance vision, and color perception may be required to drive a motorized vehicle
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Subject to icy, wet, cold, and/or hot environmental conditions
  • Subject to a low risk of injury due to vehicle accident, mechanical failure, fire, and/or explosion
  • Subject to vehicle exhaust fumes and odors, road dusts, and mist
